Using tags in Retailer allows you to add another layer of categorisation to your stock items, beyond that of the default department, category and supplier options.

In other words, you can have stock items with the same tag despite them being in a different department, category and/or supplier. For example:

Tag Name Stock Description Department Category Supplier
Star Wars

Blue Lightsaber Toys Props Hasbro
Jedi Costume Clothes Costumes Walt Disney
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Bluray Media Movies Lucasfilm

When you run a report for the tag of Star Wars, it will report on all these products. It would have been much more difficult to report on them based on Department, Category or Supplier otherwise.
