Integrated EFTPOS - Smartpay

Integrated EFTPOS - Smartpay

This advice sheet outlines the setup and configuration of integrated EFTPOS and Retailer using Smartpay Smartconnect. EFTPOS integration reduces staff errors in processing EFTPOS transactions and consequently improves security.
The steps to set up integrated EFTPOS for Smartpay in Retailer are the same regardless of what model of Smartpay terminal you have.

Before Getting Started:

  • If you plan to connect your Smartpay terminal to wifi, a strong wifi connection at the counter is required. Ideally, your wifi router should be within 10 meters of the counter.
  • If your Smartpay terminal requires a wired network connection, you will need to have an additional Ethernet (network) port available at the front counter.
  • The terminals connect directly onto your broadband, so a reliable internet connection is essential.
  • In Retailer, the Integrated EFTPOS option needs to be enabled. To check this, go to Help -> Register and check that the Integrated EFTPOS option is ticked. If not, contact Tower support to enable this function.

Pairing your Smartpay Terminal with Retailer

  1. From top of the main menu in Retailer, go to Setup -> Point of Sale.
  2. Click the Terminal tab, then in the second row of tabs click Third Party Integration.
  3. Tick EFTPOS Machine Attached, then select Smartpay from the drop-down box. Click Save.
  4. Click Setup. You will be prompted to enter a pairing code. To get this pairing code from your terminal, follow the guide in STEP TWO HERE for Australia or HERE for New Zealand.
  5. Enter the pairing code and hit Pair Now. You should see the status change to 'Paired' if successful.
You can pair more than one Retailer terminal with your Smartpay terminal. Repeat the steps above for each terminal you wish to pair.

Configuring Payment Types to use Smartpay & Setting up Surcharges

  1. From top of the main menu in Retailer, go to Setup -> General.
  2. Click the Pay Types tab. You will see a list of the payment options that appear in the subtotal screen.
  3. For any payment method that should go through your Smartpay terminal, the Type in the grid should be changed to 'Autopay'.
    1. For any payment methods that should prompt for cash out, make sure Over Payments? and Prompt Cash Out are ticked.
There are two methods for setting up surcharges. The first is to set the surcharge in Retailer - for help setting up surcharges in Retailer click HERE.
The second method is to allow your Smartpay terminal to apply a surcharge. To enable this:

  1. Select the appropriate payment type, then click the Pay Type Surcharges button.
  2. Tick Eftpos Calculated Surcharge and then Save.
With this setting enabled, surcharges will be applied based on your Smartpay settings, but will still appear on your Retailer receipts & sales history.

Performing a Settlement

To enable automatic settlement during End of Shift:
  1. Open an end of shift and click Setup in the bottom-left of the first screen.
  2. Tick the option to Perform EFTPOS Settlement.
  3. Click Proceed. You can now close the end of shift window (or finish the end of shift if desired)
To manually perform a settlement, at the top of the main menu in Retailer go to Tasks -> Daily Tasks -> Settle EFTPOS and click Yes.

MOTO Transactions (Card not present)

To perform MOTO transactions (ie over the phone payments), you need to apply for this from Smartpay. More information on this can be found on Smartpay's website HERE
Smartpay do not currently have the ability to perform an integrated MOTO transaction. Instead you will need to create a new payment type that does not send the amount to Smartpay.
  1. From the Main Screen of Retailer, click Setup -> General -> Pay Types.
  2. Click Add
  3. Enter MOTO as description, Choose Charge Card as Type of Payment. Click Next. Click Finish
  4. Tick Hide Drawer, Hide Number, Hide Bank, Hide Branch for the MOTO Payment Type
When processing a MOTO sale, you will need to manually enter the amount into the Smartpay Terminal. After the terminal shows Approved, End the Sale and choose MOTO from the Subtotal Screen.
You can also add a Quick Tender POS Button for the MOTO Payment Type
