If I switch to Tower Systems from other software, can I bring my data across?

Audience: Prospective customers who want to evaluate Tower Systems point of sale (POS) software.

In most cases, yes. Tower Systems can bring your data across if you are able to export it from your current system and it is in a form we can load. The data we most commonly convert is your stock file. Customer sales history and loyalty balances are harder to move and cannot always be converted. Data conversion is a paid service, quoted as a fixed price, and we assess your data first, free of charge, before you commit. A conversion is typically completed in about half a day, with no downtime, and is ready for your go-live. To discuss data conversion before deciding whether to switch, call 1300 662 957 (Australia) or 0800 444 367 (New Zealand), or email sales@towersystems.com.au.

Do you offer data conversion?

Yes. The data we most commonly convert is your inventory, including the SKU (stock-keeping unit), barcode, product description, buy price, sell price, GST status, tags, and variants where they apply. We can look at other data as well, depending on what your current system holds and what you can export.

Will you assess my data first, before I commit?

Yes, and the assessment is free. We review the data you are able to export to see what will convert cleanly, so you know what to expect before you make any decision.

Is there a cost for data conversion?

Yes. We quote a fixed price for the conversion, which covers the time involved. You will know the price before you go ahead.

How long does data conversion take?

We typically complete a data conversion in about half a day. Our fixed price reflects that.

Will my business have any downtime during the conversion?

No. There is no downtime. We carry out the conversion so your data is ready for your go-live.

What format do you need the data in?

A spreadsheet works best. For stock, include the SKU, barcode, and description, along with prices, and product images and tags if you have them. For customers, include name, address, email, and phone. Send us what you have, and we will do our best with it.

Should I bring my data across?

Bring it across if it is good, reliable data that you trust. If your current data is messy or out of date, a clean start can be the better option, rather than carrying old problems into new software. Only you can judge how good your current data is.

What if my current software does not let me export my data?

This is something to take up with your current software provider. Some providers make it hard to get your data out, as a way to keep you using their software. When you think about it, that can be another reason to leave them.

Will you log in to my current software and export the data for me?

We prefer that you export the data yourself, or have your current provider export it for you. It is your data, and the export sits within your relationship with your current provider.

What happens if the data I provide has errors in it?

The accuracy of your data is your responsibility. Only you know which records are correct and useful, so we do not check or correct the data you send us. It is worth reviewing your data before you send it, so you do not carry mistakes into your new system.

Do you transfer customer sales history?

Usually, no. Different software packages store sales history in different ways, which often makes an accurate conversion difficult or unreliable.

Do you transfer loyalty points?

We do our best. As with sales history, different software packages store loyalty balances in ways that can make transfer difficult, so we cannot always guarantee it.

Do you transfer account-customer balances or laybys in progress?

We transfer outstanding account-customer balances, and we do our best with them. We do not transfer layby balances. Laybys have proven difficult to convert reliably, especially from older software, so it is safest to assume they will not come across.

How do I book a discussion about data conversion?

To book an obligation-free discussion, contact the sales team:
We run these discussions online over Microsoft Teams at a time that suits you. If we decide during the conversation that the software is not the right fit for your business, we will say so and wish you well.
