Zebra Label Printer Setup for Barcode Manager
The Zebra GK420D/GX420D / ZD420 / ZD421 is a direct thermal label printer which uses thermal labels. As such, it does not require a transfer ribbon.

This printer is used with Barcode Manager in Retailer.
Installing the Printer & Driver
- Open the cover of the printer and make sure that a label roll is present.
- Close the cover until it clicks in place.
- Make sure the power switch on the back is turned off.
- Connect the power cable to both the printer and a power source.
- Connect the USB cable to both the printer and the computer.
Note: there may be a sticker covering the USB port on the back of the printer. Remove this to connect the USB cable - Turn on the power source and then turn on the printer.
- Windows should detect the printer and automatically install a driver for it. A message box will appear when it is complete.
If you have trouble installing the driver or getting Windows to recognise the printer, you may need to contact a computer technician or the Zebra support team.
Setting Up the Printer Driver
- Once the printer driver is installed, click on the Windows Start Button.
Without clicking anything else, start typing the words Control Panel and click on the Control Panel icon when it appears in the list of results. - Click on Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the zebra printer icon and click Printing Preferences.
Configure the options according to the image below:
- Click Apply.
- Click on the Advanced Setup tab at the top.

- Click on the Calibrate button. The printer will calibrate and print out some blank labels.
- Click OK.
Setting Up Label Printer Settings in Retailer
- On the main screen on Retailer, click on Stock → Barcode Manager.
- Click on the Printer Settings button.
- Under Label Printer Settings, select Print to the Label Printer. Do Not use Print to the EZ-2 Label Printer
- Next to Print to the Label Printer, select your zebra printer from the drop-down box.
If your printer isn't listed, Restart Retailer - Click on Advanced Settings.
Configure the options according to the image below:
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
Pause b/n printing - Lets you adjust the delay between labels printed on a Zebra label printer when using the Printing pages option: Print one at a time. We suggest setting this to 0.
