Zebra Label Printer Setup for Barcode Manager

The Zebra GK420D/GX420D/ZD420/ZD421 is a direct thermal label printer that uses thermal labels. As such, it does not require a transfer ribbon.

Installing the Printer & Driver

  1. Open the printer's cover and ensure a label roll is present.
  2. Close the cover until it clicks in place.
  3. Make sure the power switch on the back is turned off.
  4. Connect the power cable to both the printer and a power source.
  5. Connect the USB cable to both the printer and the computer.
    1. Note: There may be a sticker covering the USB port on the back of the printer. Remove this to connect the USB cable
  6. Turn on the power source and then turn on the printer.
  7. Windows should detect the printer and automatically install its driver. A message box will appear when it is complete.

If you have trouble installing the driver or getting Windows to recognise the printer, you may need to contact a computer technician or the Zebra support team.

Setting Up the Printer Driver

  1. Once the printer driver is installed, click on the Windows Start button.
  2. Without clicking anything else, start typing the words Control Panel and click on the Control Panel icon when it appears in the list of results.
  3. Click the Search Control Panel bar at the top right, type 'Devices and Printers,' and then click on it.
  4. Right-click the Zebra printer icon, then click Printing Preferences.
  5. Configure the following options:
    1. Speed: 5
    2. Darkness: 27
    3. Paper Format: cm
    4. Width: 5.08
    5. Height: 10.16

  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click on the Advanced Setup tab at the top.
  8. Configure the following options:
    1. Top: 0.40 cm

  9. Click Apply.
  10. Click on the Calibrate button. The printer will calibrate and print out some blank labels.
  11. Click OK.

Setting Up Label Printer Settings in Retailer

  1. On the main screen of Retailer, click on Stock → Barcode Manager.
  2. Click on the Printer Settings button.
  3. Under Label Printer Settings, select Print to the Label Printer. Do not use Print to the EZ-2 Label Printer.
  4. Next to Print to the Label Printer, select your Zebra printer from the drop-down box. If your printer isn't listed, restart Retailer.
  5. Click on Advanced Settings.
  6. Configure the options according to the list below:
    1. Top Margin = 0, Left Margin = 1, Right Margin = 0
    2. Width = 35, Height = 27
    3. Move RightAligned Controls = -2
    4. Font Name = Times New Roman
    5. Print or Preview = Print
    6. Printing Page = Print all Labels at once
    7. Info
      Pause b/n printing = Adjusts the delay between labels printed on a Zebra label printer when using the Printing pages option: Print one at a time. We suggest setting this to 0.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK.
