0:01 Hey there guys. Let's have a look at the window settings that we need to set up for installing retailer. Now these settings are not all of them are required, some of them are optional If you're reading the advice sheet.
0:14 So I'm only going to go through the ones that you absolutely should and must do.
0:17 Okay. So the first thing I like to do is I like to go and set my computer name. Now this machine that we're looking at right now is a fresh out of the box computer.
0:25 Hasn't had retailer installed on it. It's the first time I've looked at it. So it's pretty much like the way you're going to get your new computer.
0:32 All right, so the first thing to set the computer name, I like to click on the start button or you can click on search.
0:37 Clicking in either spots will let you do a search. I'm just going to click on the start button and I'm going to type in the word "control" and that will let me launch control panel.
0:48 Sometimes your control panel will open up with a slightly different view. It might be on category, switch it to small icons.
0:57 So first we're going to set the computer name. We do that via system. When system opens, we can see the device name.
1:07 Here, I like to rename it by going to advanced system settings, then to the computer name tab. And then I click on change.
1:22 And here I type in the computer name. Now what should we name our computers? Well, we normally name our POS terminals, "POS1", "POS2", "POS3".
1:31 That's in capitals, "POS1", "POS2", "POS3", no zeros, no spaces. And the server computer we normally call "MAIN" or "SERVER".
1:40 Now the server is the machine that you're going to be installing retailer on first. It's where your database will be held.
1:46 It's where you'll backup your data. If that machine stops working, none of the others are going to work. Now, I can't rename this one, but I'm going to leave it as it is.
1:55 But for now I know it's my server. Once you do rename the machine though, you should restart it so the name change will come into effect.
2:03 That needs to happen before you open retailer. Okay? Because it's when you open retailer that the name is applied. So normally you just type over it and then you'd click, okay, I'm going to press cancel just for my example.
2:17 And normally you'd see a prompt saying You need to restart your machine. When you click that or say, do you want to restart your machine now and you normally would.
2:24 So getting your computer name is one of the first things that you need to do. Back in control panel, we're going to go to network and sharing centre, we're going to click here where it says Ethernet two.
2:40 It might say internet. It's going to be in blue, click on it. We're going to click here on properties, and then we're going to untick "internet protocol version six".
2:53 We don't want that one enabled. We then click okay and a close. The next setting in here is we're going to go to advanced ship file sharing.
3:08 In private, we want to make sure that turn on network discovery is enabled. We don't want it off in guest and public.
3:15 We want to turn on network discovery, and that's all you want to do there. You can then click back here on where it says All control panel settings, and you'll go back to where we want to start.
3:31 The next setting is in power options. This one's very important because we don't want our server turning off as we're doing things.
3:39 So we click here where it says, show additional plans. We tick high performance. If you can't get to it, you might need to click on this.
3:46 So high performance, and you'll notice in high performance that it's missing from here. But normally there's a a "put computer to sleep".
3:55 We want that to set to never turning off. The display is okay. I generally set it to an hour when I'm not using my machine, but as long as the computer doesn't go to sleep, that's the important thing.
4:07 Why if your server goes to sleep, your front machines will stop working. So we make sure the server's set to never go to sleep and turn off the display in an hour.
4:15 That's fine. The next setting is under region. Click on region. And you want to make sure your format is set to English Australia.
4:26 Sometimes it's on just Microsoft windows display language. Make sure you scroll down to English Australia. And in the short date, we want to make sure it's set to"DD/MM/YYYY".
4:43 Okay, the last setting I like to change. It's just a preference. You don't have to do it, but user account controls.
4:54 I like to change my user account control settings and I like to reduce that to possibly this one or all the way off.
5:02 It just stops an unnecessary prompt when you're opening things.
5:09 So that's that prompt. That's it for control panel. One of the next settings is just a little sharing setting. It makes your server visible to your other machines because when you install retailer on other machines, you need to be able to find this machine.
5:27 So we're just going to click on start and we're going to go up here to settings.
5:40 We're gonna click on network and internet. Now, sometimes you'll see ethernet and wifi. If you are using a wired connection, make sure you turn off the wifi.
5:50 And what we wanna do is we do wanna make sure that we're on a private network. Now, if you see properties up here and you can click on it and you can choose private or make my D device discoverable, the answer is yes.
6:01 Turn that on. If you can't see it there click on ethernet here. And sometimes it takes you with a slightly different window because this is a hosted machine.
6:09 It's just a slightly little bit different. But you wanna make sure your PC is discoverable, and that's, so other computers, if you're setting up more than one terminal with retailer can find the server.
6:21 So normally you'd then restart, make sure you've restarted your machines so the name change takes in place, and then we can go about installing retailer.
6:28 All right, check out that one next.
