You may need to reverse an invoice/account sale to a customer and give them a credit instead of a refund.
There may be other reasons to crediting a customer, and this can be done with a quick Invoice Credit.
If you want a general credit to an account to remain unallocated (for manual credit allocation), you can disable the automatic allocation.
The option can be found by clicking into Setup -> System -> Customers -> Auto Allocate Customer Credits. (Only in Retailer 3.0.6 onwards)

Crediting a Customer
Crediting an Existing Invoice/Sale
- If you have the receipt or sale number, simply scan that into the Point of Sale screen. Skip to step 4.
- Open the Customer screen, and find the invoice sale in the Transactions tab.
- Right click on the sale and click Open Previous Sales Screen.
- Click on Credit at the bottom of the screen.
- Input the quantity of items to credit in Qty to Credit and type in a reason at the bottom.
- Click Ok and finish off the transaction.
General Credit to Account
- Ensure you have a stock item (e.g. miscellaneous department item) that can be used in the credit transaction. This item will have quantity returned (+1) at the end.
- Open the Point of Sale screen.
- Press F7 on the keyboard, or click on Invoice Credit (this button can be added to your screen).
- Select the customer account.
- Scan or add the items that add up to the amount you want credited.
- Finish the sale and the account will be credited.
Alternatively, you can create a balance adjustment on the customer's account.

What happens to the credit
If an original invoice was selected, credits will go against the invoice.
If an invoice was not selected, it will depend on the setting to automatically allocate customer credits as described above.
- If setting is enabled (by default), the credit will be applied to the oldest owing balance on an invoice or charge.
- If setting is disabled, the credit will stay in the customer account. You will then need to allocate credits manually.
