In Retailer you have the ability to set Retailer to backup the database automatically at specific times. That way, you don't need to wait for your backup to complete at night.

However, there are several considerations to take note of before using this method:

  1. You will need to leave the computer turned on during the backup times, which is usually overnight.
  2. The backup will remain in the shop, which means if something happens to the shop (fire, flood etc.), the backup may be lost as well. A possible solution to this is to use a cloud/online storage service for your backups. Click HERE for more information.

If these considerations do not affect you, follow the steps below to configure Retailer for automatic backups:

  1. On the SERVER/MAIN computer, plug in the USB drive. A screen like the one below should appear after several seconds. Take note of the drive letter.

  2. Double-click on the RetailerV3 Backup icon on the desktop.
  3. In Archive File, this is the location where the backup will be saved. You need to make sure that the first letter matches the drive letter of the USB.
(In the example, the USB's drive letter is F so the Archive File field should read F:\R3data.ret)
  4. Alternatively, you can click on the yellow folder icon to browse to the location to save the backup to.

  5. After setting the location of the backup:
    • We recommend that you do not tick Format Backup Media prior to backup. This setting clears the entire USB drive before performing the backup.
    • Tick Show last successful backup in Main Screen. This shows a message on the bottom right hand corner of Retailer saying when the last successful backup was.
  6. Click Settings and then Backup Settings. In the Automatic Backups section:
    • Tick Use Automatic Backups
    • Select which days you wish to run the automatic backup. This should be any day you use Retailer.
    • Select the time you wish to do the automatic backup. This should be set to be at least 30 mins after you close.
    • Click on Create Scheduled Task.
    • Click Close

Your automatic backup is now set up. We highly recommend that you periodically check your backup media to ensure that your data is backing up correctly. If you are unsure, please contact our support team to check with you.
